How to Change Valorant Name? | Complete Guide
Valorant uses your Riot ID as your in-game name (username, screen name, or whatever else you’d like to call it). It’s what is displayed in-game and on friend’s lists. Your Riot ID is also used as your display name in all other Riot video games, such as League of Legends (LoL) and Teamfight Tactics.
Riot IDs are made up of two parts, a “Game Name” and a “Tagline”, both of which can be changed. You can change your Valorant name (Riot ID) every 90 days for free.
Below are the step-by-step instructions to complete a Valorant name change.
Note: You may need to close Valorant before changing your Riot ID.
How to Change Your Valorant Name
Follow these steps to change your Valorant name:
1) Log into your Riot Account From a Browser
Use your preferred web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.) to log into your Riot account at account.riotgames.com
You’ll need to enter your username and password, then complete any required 2-factor authentication to log in.
2) Click on the RIOT ID Tab
Once you’ve logged into your Riot account, Click on the “RIOT ID” tab on the “Account Management” page.
3) Enter Your New Name and Tagline
In the “Riot ID” section of the “RIOT ID” tab, enter your new name (“Game Name”) and optionally also change your “Tagline”.
Your “Game Name” can be between 3 and 16 alphanumeric characters.
By default, your “Tagline” will start with a region code, but you can change it to anything that’s 3 to 5 alphanumeric characters long. Note that once you change your Tagline, you will not be able to change it back to any region code.
“Game Names” and “Taglines” cannot be offensive or inappropriate, so use your best judgment when choosing one.
4) Save Your Changes
After you’ve entered any changes that you want to make to your Valorant name (Riot ID “Game Name” and “Tagline”), click the “Save Changes” button. You should receive a success message if the changes were successful or an error message if your Riot ID fails to be updated.
If your Riot ID change was successful, you should now be able to see it in your game.
Riot ID Guidelines
A Riot ID comprises a “Game Name” and a “Tagline”.
Example Riot ID: SomeName2#tag1
Game Names must be between 3 and 16 characters long and may include letters, numbers, and some special characters. Game Names themselves do not have to be unique. However, the combination of your Game Name and Tagline does have to be unique. A Game Name is what comes before the “#” symbol in your Riot ID.
Taglines must be between 3 and 5 characters long and may include letters, numbers, and some special characters. Taglines come after the “#” symbol in your Riot ID.
Default taglines start with a region code: BR, LAS, LAN, OCE, NA, EUW, EUNE, TR, RU, KR, JP, PBE, BR1, LA1, LA2, OC1, or NA1. You can change your Tagline to any 3-5 alphanumeric characters; however, once you change it, you will not be able to change it back to a region code in the future.
